DOHC V6 engine is rated by Nissan to produce 485 PS (357 kW; 478 hp) at 6,400 RPM and 60 kg·m (588 N·m; 434 ft·lbf) at 3,200-5,200 RPM in its use in the 2008 Nissan GT-R. With turbos, the motor weighs 608lbs. It is so far the only version of the VR engine in production.

The engine sports 24 valves controlled by dual overhead camshafts with variable valve timing (intake only). The block is cast aluminum with 0.15 mm plasma-sprayed cylinder liner bores. The turbine housings for the two IHI turbochargers are integrated into the exhaust manifolds to decrease weight and bolster vehicle balance. It also makes it harder to install larger turbochargers to increase performance as two new exhaust manifolds are needed. The engine also sports a pressurized lubrication system controlled thermostatically.

The VR38DETT is hand assembled in a special clean room in Nissan's Yokohama facility by specially trained technicians. Each engine is assembled by only one technician, to promote greater quality control.

The GT-R currently holds a lap time of 1:19.7 around the Top Gear Test Track, equalling that of the Ferrari 430 Scuderia, and beating the Corvette ZR1's time of 1:20.4. On Top Gear Australia's test track the GT-R posted a lap time of 1:07.06, putting it in second place 0.14 seconds behind the 997 GT2. Top Gear laps are conducted from a standing start and under varying conditions.

Nissan claims the GT-R can reach a top speed of 193 mph (311 km/h), Motor Trend recorded a top speed of 195.0 mph (313.8 km/h).It has been tested to achieve 0-60 mph (97 km/h) times as low as 3.2 seconds with "launch control" and 3.8 seconds without (improved to 3.5 seconds in models produced since March 2009). Nissan's chief vehicle engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno has indicated that he has never used the term "launch control", which refers to the act of turning off vehicle dynamic control (VDC) and launching the car at around 4500 rpm.However, Nissan's director of product planning John Wiener clearly stated in an interview with Jay Leno that "we [Nissan] actually offer a 'launch mode'". The GT-R user's manual states that turning off the VDC is only meant for escaping low-traction situations such as mud or snow, and that damage to the transmission is not covered under warranty if the VDC is used in other ways.It reportedly costs $20,000 USD to replace a damaged transmission outside of warranty. Nissan has re-programmed the 2010 model year GT-R to reduce the engine speed at launch to around 3,000 to 3,500 rpm with VDC enabled, which is meant to improve acceleration times. The new programming was also installed on old 2009 vehicles still in Nissan's inventory, and is available for existing 2009 vehicles.

With a manufacturer claimed lap time of 7:26.7 on the base model's Dunlop tires and previously 7:29 min on standard Japanese market tires, the GT-R is currently one of the fastest production cars to lap the Nürburgring circuit,although Porsche accused Nissan of falsifying those claims in September 2008. Porsche claims to have conducted their own test of the GT-R using no modifications and stock tires and achieved a best time of 7:54. Nissan officially disputed Porsche's claim in October 2008.

The German magazine sport auto achieved a time of 7:50 on the Nürburgring with a car supplied to them by Nissan during an initial short test in 2007,while testing by Drivers Republic of a GT-R and GT2 in stock form resulted in times of 7:55 for the GT-R and 7:49 for the GT2 respectively. Both tests were conducted in partially damp conditions and by automotive journalists rather than professional track drivers. In a full test in 2009, sport auto achieved a time of 7:38 minutes on the Nürburgring with a standard GT-R driven by Horst von Saurma.

Autocar released a video comparison of the GT-R with the Porsche 911 GT3 and BMW M3. Driven by test driver Chris Harris the GT-R was the fastest of the three.

Autocar released another comparison test at the Isle of Man on a 4.5 km closed public road with the Audi R8, Lotus Elise, and Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. The GT-R's time of 1:56:69 was behind the Gallardo's 1:55:99 time, however because the GT-R was Japanese-spec its top speed was limited to 112 mph, the reviewer noted the GT-R was stuck on the limiter for ~10-11 seconds and without the limiter would have "blitzed the Lamborghini". In Car Magazine's test with the 911 Turbo at Rockingham the GT-R was faster. Evo tested the GT-R alongside the 911 GT3 at the Bedford Autodrome circuit, the GT-R ran a 1:21.7 lap time compared to GT3's 1:22.6 time. In a Fifth Gear test with the 911 Turbo, Bruno Senna was able to achieve faster lap times in the GT-R. Car and Driver compared the GT-R on Reno-Fernley Raceway with the 911 Turbo and BMW M3, the GT-R's lap time of 1:26.7 made it the fastest on the track.Road & Track was able to achieve quick lap times with the car on Buttonwillow Raceway, clocking in at 1:56.9 just over 5 seconds faster than the Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06 and 911 Turbo. In an Edmunds.com 6-way test which included the Audi R8 on both the Streets of Willow and an improvised mountain road, the GT-R was quickest. In an Autocar comparison with the PDK 911 Turbo and V10 Audi R8 on the Castle Combe Circuit the GT-R's laptime of 1:14:6, was faster than the 911's time of 1:14:9 and the R8's of 1:15:5 lap time.

On Willow Springs International Motorsports Park, Edmunds.com was able to achieve lap times of 1:25.09 compared to the Corvette ZR1's time of 1:23.87. On the Las Vegas Motor Speedway infield road course, Motor Trend were able to achieve lap times with the GT-R that were almost as fast as the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and 911 GT2 and 3 seconds slower than a Corvette ZR1.

The Nissan GT-R is powered by the VR38DETT engine, a 3,799 cc (3.8 L; 231.8 cu in) DOHC V6. Two parallel Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI) turbochargers provide forced induction.^[15] Production vehicles produce a manufacturer-claimed engine output of 474 bhp (353 kW) at 6400 rpm and 434 lb·ft (588 N·m) at 3200-5200 rpm.According to independent dynamometer tests, the GT-R produces 416 hp (310 kW) to 475 hp (354 kW) and 414 lb·ft (561 N·m) to 457 lb·ft (620 N·m) at the wheels. The engine also meets California Air Resources Board Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) standards. A curb weight of 1,730 kg (3,800 lb) or 1,736 kg (3,830 lb) with side curtain airbags is achieved using a jig welded steel chassis with aluminum used for the hood, trunk, and doors. A rear mounted six-speed BorgWarner dual clutch semi-automatic transmission is used in conjunction with the ATTESA E-TS system to provide power to all four wheels and along with Nissan's Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC-R) aids in stability. Nissan introduced the GT-R SpecV on January 7, 2009 at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon.Exterior changes from the base GT-R consist of a carbon fiber rear spoiler, grille, and brake ducts, along with an exclusive Ultimate Black Opal paint job. Interior changes include a set of carbon fiber Recaro front seats with the rear seats being completely removed. Carbon fiber covers the center storage box, instrument panel, and replaces the majority of the interior trim.

The GT-R SpecV is powered by the standard twin-turbo 3,799 cc (3.8 L; 231.8 cu in) V6 with no increase in (peak) horsepower. But a new high gear boost controller that allows a temporary increase in boost pressure to the IHI twin turbochargers, now larger than those on the standard GT-R, should deliver more torque in mid to high-range revs. Other mechanical changes include a titanium exhaust, reworked suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and 20-inch (510 mm) NISMO wheels. Overall weight is decreased by 132 lb (60 kg) over the standard GT-R.

Japan sales begin on February 2, 2009 at seven pre-selected dealers who are staffed by mechanics with special GT-R SpecV training and are knowledgeable of racing circuit driving. Pricing is set at ¥15,750,000 (over US$160,000). Nissan has not announced any plans to sell the SpecV outside of Japan

Previously we reported on the Nissan GT-R's 'uncrackable' speed limiter, which could only be delimited when entering circuits via a GPS link. While Nissan assured customers the encryption on the ECU was very sophisticated and difficult to crack, U.S.-based COBB tuning has indeed cracked the speed limiter and is now working on sorts of other modifications including the fuel-mapping and boost pressure controls.

Currently the GT-R is limited to 180km/h (112mph) unless the car detects you're at a race track, but COBB tuning reports that they have removed it and are currently undertaking in-house testing. COBB's GT-R is a Japanese-domestic-market model, but the company predicts that by the time North American spec cars arrive they will be well prepared and practiced in the art of tuning the GT-R's ECU. Without the speed limit, the GT-R can hit a claimed 193mph.

COBB also has a number of modified ECUs for Nissan’s 350Z and Infiniti’s G37. Other modifications the tuner has in store for the new Nissan lineup include high-flow intake and exhaust systems, suspension and handling mods, electronic boost controllers and carbon-fiber accessories.

As we reported earlier, big Japanese manufacturers have also been tinkering with the ECU and companies such as Mines and Top Secret have been able to install custom wheels and engine mods without the ECU going haywire.

SuperGT Series 2009 kicks off in under a month when the lights go green for round #1 on Sunday the 22nd of March 2009. NISMO has officially announced the number of teams entered this year as well as the drivers and specifications of the 2009 version of the GT500 Nissan R35 GT-R race cars.

First up, there will be just four Nissan GT-R teams in SuperGT GT500 class racing this year, a reduction by one due to Nissan’s commitments to the FIA GT1 racing class to which ex-Motul Autech driver Michael Krumm has moved. This leaves the teams and drivers as follows:

#3 Name TBA GT-R (team Hasemi MotorSports) driven by Ronnie Quintarelli / Hironobu Yasuda

As for the car specification, this year GTA regulations change to say that the GT-R must produce less downforce which is achieve by way of a shorter overhang. There’s an update to the cooling system by way of modified exit vents as well as new paddle shifters for the 6 speed sequential racing transmission. The engine remains the VK45DE V8.

Race 1 for SuperGT 2009 is the Okayama 300km race at Okayama International Circuit on the 22nd of March. The 3.7km long track will also provide pre-race test facilities to teams on 7th and 8th of March.

HKS GT600 package
HKS was one of the first major tuning houses to work on Nissan’s legendary GT-R supercar, developing performance kits and accessories as early as the 1989 R32 model right up to the latest R35 model. While many rival Japanese tuning firms specialise in simple off-the-shelf mods, the engineering that goes into every HKS product is based on experience garnered from more than 35 years of drag racing, road racing, rallying, and top speed trials. As a result, HKS has been synonymous with performance in the automotive aftermarket industry.

The most recent package from company was the GT570 racing kit for the GT-R. Already on sale in the U.S. for $5,700 as a race-only conversion, the kit includes 75mm racing extension pipes, new intercooling piping, a reprogrammed ECU, a sequential blow-off valve kit, reinforced actuators, and new spark plugs.

HKS has now released an updated GT600 package in either Racing or Sport lines. The new GT600 is kit is based on the previous GT570 package and essentially add a new induction kit with large diameter intakes, a fuel regulator and a fuel pump. The only difference between the Racing and Sport lines is the exhaust system, which for the street-legal Sport trim has been toned down to pass emission and noise regulations in Japan.

According to HKS’ own dyno chart the addition of the GT600 package boosts power to 592hp (441kW)

In this edition they have met with Kobayashi-san, owner and boss of Matchless Crowd Racing (MCR) workshop which frequently graces the page of this and many other blogs. Here is the GTRBlog translation of the article.

MCR recently completed their new paddle shifter setup. “Why don’t the paddles turn with the steering wheel together?” wondered Kobayashi-san from day 1 of receiving their new GT-R. It wasn’t long before they had figured out the workings of the system and put the finishing touches on the new original MCR paddle shifters.

The standard paddle shifters are in a fixed location on the steering column. In the middle of a corner when a bit of steering angle is applied they can be difficult to reach. You may have to fumble with the wheel or take a hand off to shift. The MCR system is similar to those found in Formula-1 as well as on the BMW E46 M3 (SMG-II).

First impressions using the new paddle system is that it isn’t any different. The position and height of the paddles and the action required is the same as normal. When cornering however, especially in tight turns it really pays off. Your hands never have to leave the 10:10 or 9:15 position and you can concentrate simply on controlling the car. Kobayashi-san relates a story about the track use of his invention “On Fuji Speedway at the hair pin final turn, and at Tsukuba at 80R when you have to upshift approaching Dunlop you would not want to move your hand for such a corner don’t you think?”. The MCR paddle shifter is just such a device that can improve your times in corners such as these.

Unfortunately one cannot use the MCR paddle shifters with the original GT-R steering wheel and an after market wheel must be chosen. The loss of the steering wheel functions such as cruise control, and cell phone controls is inconvenient but MCR have come up with an add on to their paddle shifter kit to give back those features even when using an aftermarket steering wheel.

Driving Impressions

The theme for the MCR GT-R is a fusion of speed and everyday driveability. Normally when one thinks of MCR they think of a hard edged tuned time attack cars, light weight, even stripped sporting roll cages. In reality the MCR R35 GT-R is none of those. It’s aimed at taking the top times at the track without compromising daily comforts such as A/C and the full audio system. As for the engine, Kobayashi-san says “The engine is standard but the suspension and brakes are where we improve towards the theme”.

The suspension he speaks of is original MCR specification Endless Zeal Function damper technology. Spring rates are 14kg at the front and 12kg at the rear. Going by these numbers you’d think the ride would be harsher than standard but you’d be wrong and it’s actually significantly improved over standard. This suspension modification is good to net you a one minute flat Tsukuba lap.

The MCR GT-R wears Yokohama DNA S-Drive 20″ tires at the moment but Kobayashi-san is not very impressed to be truthful. The sidewalls are lacking sitffness. The tire provides a good ride and performs fine for driving on the street or down your favourite winding road but cornering performance could be better. Around town and on the freeway though the combination of Endless suspension and Yokohama tires make for a comfortable ride even at high speed on imperfect roads.

How About Endless Monoblock Brakes?

The MCR car utilises Endless Mono6 racing calipers and Endless two piece rotors to match. This braking system is like the ones fitted to the Endless GT300 car. You thought the Brembos were effective? Well these are even better. On the street or at the track these brakes will become your new best friend. The metallic pad squeal is a trade-off for high performance that you must learn to live with however.

So we can truly say that MCR are realising their theme, a fusion of daily usability with speed. The numbers speak for themselves, 1 minute flat around Tsukuba with no engine modifications while maintaining an excellent level of ride and comfort.

Mine's R35 GTR

Famous Japanese tuner Mine’s first showed off its modified Nissan GT-R as far back as December 2007, and since that time the performance workshop has had plenty of time to develop new parts and accessories to make the car perform even better than before. Mine’s previous R35 GT-R proved to be faster around the track than a Lamborghini Gallardo, as well as the firm’s previous R34 GT-R model.

The tuner’s latest work includes a brand new aero package, which includes of a full bodykit plus several additional carbon-fiber accessories. These include pieces such as a carbon-fiber lip spoiler, carbon-fiber hood and trunk lid, and new carbon-fiber side mirrors. There are also custom canards positioned on the front spoiler.

Modifications to the car’s internals include an upgraded ECU, high-flow air filter and exhaust, an adjustable suspension package with a Mine’s Eibach spring kit, uprated brake rotors and pads, and high-capacity fuel injectors.

Other extreme Nissan GT-Rs at this year’s Tokyo event include the 550hp Complete Edition GT-R and the 700hp quad-charged – that’s twin-supercharged and twin-turbocharged – Power Enterprise GT-R.

It is the first production car engine from Nissan using VVEL. It has an increased compression ratio of 11.0:1, with 3,696 cc (225.5 cu in) displacement (95.5mm bore and 86mm stroke), while redline remains at 7500rpm. It is rated at 333 PS (245 kW; 328 hp) at 7,000rpm and 37.2 kg·m (365 N·m; 269 ft·lbf) at 5200rpm. Although the engine gains only 0.2 kg·m (2 N·m; 1 ft·lbf) peak torque over the VQ35HR and this higher torque arrives at 5200 rpm vs. 4800 in the VQ35HR, the torque curve itself is improved and flattened via VVEL variable valve timing for better throttle response.

Nissan Fairlady 370z Review

The 2009 Nissan 370Z is a straightforward sportscar: one wedgelike body style, two front seats, modest cargo area, and a 3.7-liter V-6 that pumps out 332 horsepower. Some at TheCarConnection.com would opine that if you need more information than this, you're not really shopping for a sportscar.

What ends up being especially confusing for '09 is that the old-style 350Z is still being sold, though only as a convertible. This review covers the all-new coupe; for those looking at the '09 convertible, please refer to our 2008 Nissan 350Z review.

The 370Z coupe is all new for 2009. Unlike so many recent introductions, the exterior dimensions for the 2009 Nissan 370Z are trimmed down from 2008. Measurements show that the wheelbase is almost four inches shorter, and overall length is down almost three inches. When looking at the new Z, it's clear that Nissan takes nearly all of the length from behind the door, a move that enhances the coupe's long-hood look. Where the windshield meets the roof is an especially dramatic area, providing a styling link from 370Z to the mighty Nissan GT-R (the GT-R is to the 370Z as the Corvette is to the Camaro).

Like the exterior, the interior is all new and a significant upgrade. Competently placed controls make work behind the wheel a pleasure, and little cues—such as the fact that the main gauges move with the tilt steering column—help ensure solid ergonomics. However, the 2009 Nissan 370Z doesn't stand out inside; materials feel solid but not particularly appealing, and the three gauges nestled into the center of the dash (water temp, voltage, clock) look to be wearing cheap vinyl toupees.

The engine, a 3.7-liter V-6 making 332 horsepower, is the same one installed in the Infiniti G37 coupe. Redline is at a steep 7,500 rpm, but there's no advantage to revving it that high; the engine has a fat torque curve and produces plenty of usable power at lower revs.

The new 2009 Nissan 370Z offers two transmissions. One is a carryover from the Infiniti G37, an excellent seven-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The gearbox does an excellent job of approximating a manual gearbox when called on to do so. Most enthusiasts will prefer the smooth-shifting six-speed manual, which now features rev-matching, a feature that blips the throttle during downshifts. This feature achieves the benefit of smoother "heel-toe" downshifting without requiring the driver to be as adept with his (or her) feet as Helio Castoneves. Fuel economy is actually better than the previous model, at 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway for the automatic.

On the track, TheCarConnection.com editors note that the shorter wheelbase and wider track improve the car's handling dynamics, and it's big fun to toss around. And on the road, we generally like the way the 2009 Nissan 370Z drives. The ride from the new suspension is compliant, but over some surfaces—and only some—the road noise is way too loud and totally unacceptable for a modern car. Drivetrain noise, particularly gearbox whine, is prevalent, reminding you that Nissan spent its development money on making the 370Z go fast, not quietly. Additionally, at very high speeds (go-directly-to-jail velocities) the tires tend to hunt the subtle grooves of the road, requiring an unsettling amount of attention to keep the missile on course.

In terms of safety, the 2009 Nissan 370Z includes every dynamic feature available, including traction control, ABS, and electronic stability control. These controls work with a responsive chassis that should let you drive around accidents instead of running into them. In the event of an accident, front and side airbags are standard, as well as roof-mounted side-curtain airbags. As of this review, Nissan's newest Z-car hasn't been crash tested, but it should perform better than the outgoing 350Z (mostly a four-star performer).

The Nismo version was introduced for the 2009 year model. The engine produces 350 bhp (260 kW) at 7,400 RPM and 276 lb·ft (374 N·m) at 5,200 RPM with revised ECU settings and exhaust setup. Transmission choice is limited to a 6-speed manual with Nissan's new "SynchroRev Match" function. Handling is improved via stiffened springs and stabilizer bars compared to the 370Z Coupe. Other equipment includes 19-inch RAYS forged aluminum-alloy wheels with Yokohama ADVAN Sport Y-rated tires (P245/40ZR19 front, P285/35ZR19 rear), 14.0-inch front and 13.8-inch rear vented rotors, NISMO Sport Brakes with 4-piston front and 2-piston rear aluminum calipers, and a fully integrated chin spoiler.

The car went on sale on June 17, 2009 with an MSRP of US$39,130.

370Z Yellow (2009-)

It is a limited edition of 370Z GT Pack coupe for British market, inspired by the European GT4 race car. It includes Ultimate Yellow body, 19-inch RAYS forged alloy wheels, black leather and suede interior upholstery, integrated satellite navigation system, illuminated entry plates, special mats and a BOSE audio with 8 speakers and a 6-CD autochanger.

The vehicle went on sale in September 2009 for £31,650 (manual) or £33,050 (automatic).

370Z Roadster (2009-)

The convertible model was introduced for the 2010 year model. It features a soft-top roof.

Nissan NISMO 370Z

Output of the Nismo 370Z is up 18 horsepower over the normal Z car for a total output of 350 hp. Torque is increased just 6 pound-feet to 276 lb-ft. Those gains were found with an optimized exhaust system and muffler design, and a tuned engine computer. The only transmission offered is a six-speed manual, equipped with SynchroRev Match that increases the engine speed on downshifts for smoother driving. A viscous limited-slip differential is standard.

Nissan has tightened up the driving dynamics with a range of suspension modifications including performance dampers and a strut tower brace. Springs are stiffer by 15 percent in the front and 10 percent in the rear, and front and rear stabilizer bars have also been stiffened. Brakes include 14-inch-diameter front rotors and 13.8-inch rear rotors, with clamping force from four-piston calipers in the front and two-piston units in the rear. The 370Z rolls on 19-inch forged wheels covered in Yokohama Advan Sport performance tires.

Nismo performance also comes with a complete appearance package. The nose has been extended with a fascia that is said to provide more downforce. There's also a new rear fascia, a set of side sills and a functional rear spoiler.

The driver and passenger sit in black-and-red seats trimmed in red stitching and adorned with the Nismo logo. The gauge cluster features a unique Nismo tachometer, and on startup, the tach and speedometer needles perform a full sweep. Each Nismo Z also includes a console-mounted badge identifying the serial number and model year.

Convenience features are fairly sparse, and include a four-speaker audio system, cruise control and power door locks and windows. The one touch of luxury comes from Nissan's Intelligent Key. The Nismo 370Z is offered in only one trim level with no options.

Matchless Crowd Racing MCR 370Z

Matchless Crowd Racing, one of the more ‘Japlish’-named tuning houses in the Land of the Rising Sun, is also one of the more famous modern tuners. As proof, MCR’s R34 Skyline GT-R has featured as one of the quickest mountain pass (aka touge in Japanese) weapons, tested by respected magazine and video maker Best Motoring.

MCR has now turned its attention to the new 370Z with first pics of the demo car now available. Daubed in MCR’s signature crimson hue, the car features a ‘full add-on skirt and wing’ bodykit along with bespoke Enkei wheels. The skirts are available in fibreglass or carbon fibre, depending on your budget and tastes.

While I am still not a fan of the 370Z’s looks (perhaps it will grow on me), I find this bodykit and wheels to be a positive change to the car. The shape is cohesive and aggressive without being over-the-top. The wing doesn’t look like it was stolen from a F1 race car, and might actually let you see out the back. The wheels add to the 370Z’s stance, sitting nearly flush against the guards and with a big arch-filling diameter (without being ludicrous).

Bringing some go to match the show, MCR has provided some basic upgrades to the mechanical package. A free-flowing titanium exhaust will return some of the animal to the undoubtedly muted-for-legality note, coupled with a custom engine management tune to round out the powertrain improvements.

It produces 223 PS (164 kW; 220 hp) to 225 PS (165 kW; 222 hp) @6,800 rpm and 194 ft·lbf (263 N·m) @4,800 rpm. It has CVTC, microfinished camshafts and a redline of 7,500 rpm.

VQ35HR

The VQ35HR update was first seen in the US in the 2007 G35 Sedan models, which debuted in August 2006. Nissan updated the VQ line with the addition of the 3.5 L VQ35HR (for "High Revolution" or "High Response"). It produces 315 PS (232 kW; 311 hp) (US market: 306 PS (225 kW; 302 hp) due to new US federal measurement regulations) at 6,800 rpm and 37 kg·m (363 N·m; 268 ft·lbf) at 4,800 rpm, using a compression ratio of 10.6:1. As of 2009, the Infiniti EX35 produces 297hp and the same torque presumably due to tighter regulations. It has NDIS (Nissan Direct Ignition System) and CVTC with hydraulic actuation on the intake cam and electromagnetic on the exhaust cam. Redline is 7,500 rpm. Reportedly over 80% of the internal components were redesigned or strengthened to handle an increased RPM range sporting a lofty 7,500 rpm redline. A new dual-path intake (two air cleaners, throttle bodies, etc.) lowers intake tract restriction by 18 percent and new equal-length exhaust manifolds lead into mufflers that are 25 percent freer flowing for all around better gas flow. The new intake is said to benefit from a ram-air effect adding three horsepower at 60 mph (not accounted for by SAE testing methods). The electrically actuated variable valve timing on the exhaust cams to broaden the torque curve is new over the "DE" engine. The new engine block retains the same bore and stroke, but the connecting rods were lengthened and the block deck was raised by 8.4 mm to reduce piston side-loads. This modification, along with the use of larger crank bearings with main bearing caps reinforced by a rigid ladder-type main cap girdle to allow the engine reliably rev to 7500 rpm. With an increase in compression ratio from 10.3:1 to 10.6:1 these changes add 6 more horsepower (306 total + 3 hp ram air effect not measured by SAE testing = 309 hp). Peak torque is up 8 pound-feet from the old "DE" engine (260 vs. 268) and the torque curve is higher and flatter across most of the rpm range, and especially in the lower rpm range.

It is the first production car engine from Nissan using VVEL. It has an increased compression ratio of 11.0:1, with 3,696 cc (225.5 cu in) displacement (95.5mm bore and 86mm stroke), while redline remains at 7500rpm. It is rated at 333 PS (245 kW; 328 hp) at 7,000rpm and 37.2 kg·m (365 N·m; 269 ft·lbf) at 5200rpm. Although the engine gains only 0.2 kg·m (2 N·m; 1 ft·lbf) peak torque over the VQ35HR and this higher torque arrives at 5200 rpm vs. 4800 in the VQ35HR, the torque curve itself is improved and flattened via VVEL variable valve timing for better throttle response.

The 12th generation Skyline appeared on 20 November 2006.

It was first available only as a 4-door sedan in Japan and was also sold in the USA as the 2007 Infiniti G35. It is equipped with either a VQ25HR 2.5 L V6 producing 165 kW or a VQ35HR 3.5 L V6 with 232 kW. The 2.5 L is available as a ALL-wheel drive variant as well.

On May 13, 2008, Nissan announced that a convertible variant of the Infiniti G37 (U.S Spec Skyline coupe) will be produced for the 2009 model year.

250GT sedan (DBA-V36, DBA-NV36)

All wheel drive is standard on 250GT FOUR models.
250GT Type S was introduced in 2008 model year.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today introduced the 12th generation Skyline, featuring all-new exterior and interior designs, the next generation FR-L platform and newly developed VQ35HR V6 engine. The new Skyline was developed under the concept, “attraction, sophistication and high-performance driving.”

The new Skyline retails from 2,793,000 yen (MRSP) to 3,801,000 yen nationwide. Nissan’s forecast for the Skyline is 1,000 units per month.

“Dynamic rhythm” and sporty lines

The exterior design of the all-new Skyline expresses “dynamic rhythm” with its fluid lines, combined with a sleek aerodynamic and sporty-look.

The overall height is 20mm lower, overall width is 20mm wider than its V35 predecessor.

Its longer nose, sharply raked A-pillar, forward-learning roofline, and fluidly curving character line which wrap around the rear wheel arches, express “dynamic motion” and enhance the rear wheel drive proportions.

The front hood features a sculptured new front-grille and headlamps. The integrated spoiler for the rear trunk blends with new L-shaped tail lamps, while the double exhaust tips adds to the purposeful high-performance image.

The Skyline’s sport models feature exclusive front bumper and body-side sill spoiler.

The new line-up comes in a choice of seven body colors including three all-new colors – Stratosphere Blue, Blade Silver and Crimson Red.

Interior comfort and craftsmanship

The all-new interior incorporates a cockpit feel with the front dashboard and center stack designed to be driver-centric.

The aluminum trim finish was inspired by the texture of traditional Japanese rice paper called “Washi”, whereas the optional wood trim is made of bubinga, a high-quality wood commonly used in high-end furniture pieces.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear-shifter are hand-stitched for refined craftsmanship quality. All the switches and dials are ergonomically designed for smooth easy-to-reach operation and offer a refined tactile feel.

The seats are 27mm lower for a more sporty drive position. A greater margin for adjustment is offered on the seats as well as the steering wheel. The front seat offers firm support and comfort to ensure tireless driving in either day-to-day traffic or long-distance touring. Headroom and rear-seat space are best-in-class.

The Skyline range is available in a choice of five different interior color combinations to suit individual tastes.

The next generation FR-L platform has been engineered to deliver a fun and exhilarating driving experience without having to compromise on a smooth and comfortable ride. The Skyline is powered by the newly developed VQ35HR and VQ25HR V6 engines. The 3.5L version generates 315 horsepowers and 36.5kgm of torque and is capable of revving up to 7500rpm, while the 2.5L generates 225 horsepowers and 26.8 kgm of torque. The powerplant is matched to a five-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift control, allowing the driver to be in full control of the power generated by the new engine. A new DS mode allows for more spirited driving by optimizing gear selection for various driving conditions. The gearbox is also equipped with the synchro-rev control system.

The sportier SP and P series feature a steering-column mounted shift paddles that allow the driver to operate in manual-shift mode. The paddles are made of solid, light-weight magnesium.

In striving for the perfect balance in vehicle dynamics, the Skyline responds to the driver’s command under various driving conditions – agility and comfort for city driving, stability and smoothness for open highways, and precision handling for sinuous mountain road conditions.

The new body is more rigid and transmits less NVH (noise, vibration and harshness), despite no incremental weight compared to its V35 predecessor. Nissan’s advanced technology allows precise control of the vibration characteristics of the suspensions, mounts and body, in order to minimize the effects of road vibrations.

Unique to the Skyline is the world’s first four-wheel active steering system, which adjusts the steering angles of the front and rear wheels in accordance with driving speeds and steering operation, allowing for greater control at low and medium speeds, and smooth effortless cruising at higher speeds. It is optional on SP and S series.

The new Skyline is equipped with larger 18-inch (sports models) and 17-inch (standard models) aluminum wheels. In the sport models, it is equipped with different sized front (225/50R) and rear (245/45R) tires for added performance.

High safety and environmental standards

The body has been designed to deliver a high level of compatibility; it protects the occupants with a reinforced cabin while minimizing crash impact to other cars. Pedestrian protection is designed to lessen the impact to the head and lower limb.

The Skyline is a certified SU-LEV (super low emission vehicle), with a significant 75% reduction in NOx (Nitrogen Oxide) and NMHC (Non-Methane Hydrocarbon) emissions compared to 2005 emission regulations of Japan.

370GT coupe (DBA-CKV36)

12^th generation Skyline is based on the Skyline sedan, which was released mid 2006, but is powered by the new VQ37VHR. The 3.7 liter V6 produces 333 hp, which is 25 hp more than the VQ35VHR in the sedan, and comes equipped with a Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) system. Combine that with the fully symmetrical air intakes on right and left and you achieve the following: quick acceleration response, high power, low fuel-consumption and cleaner exhaust.

The new Skyline Coupé's interior has but one target in mind, namely to make driving a joy. With an engine like the VQ37VHR, the interior has to be impeccable. The steering wheel is wrapped in parallel hand-stitched leather with magnesium paddle shifters and the interior is available in two color schemes, Fauve with real wood trim or Cool Black with aluminium trim.

Technical trickery aplenty in the new coupe and includes Intelligent Key system for enhanced theft prevention, Blind-Side Monitor system, optional RearView Mirror system, optional HDD Carwings Navigation system with touch screen and Bose audio system. Of course safety feature are well represented with all the available airbag systems installed (SRS Air Bag System, SRS Side Air Bag System, SRS Curtain Air Bag System), ABS, Electronic Braking Distribution and Brake Assist systems, Vehicle Dynamic Control, four-wheel active steering (4WAS) system and Nissan's new "pop-up engine hood" technology.

Performance

Based on Car & Driver's test of the Infiniti EX35, it outperforms its competitors.[citation needed] 0-60 mph time is 5.8 - 6.2 seconds. The quarter mile is 14.6 seconds at 98 miles per hour (158 km/h), and top speed (Gov. limit) is 144 mph (232 km/h). 70 mph (110 km/h) - 0 braking is a short 166 feet (51 m), shorter than the Pontiac G8 GT (a sports sedan). The Roadholding is .83g's.[citation needed] Lastly notes from the test say, "Acceleration runs are faster using manumatic mode, which is unusual. Excellent fade-free brakes."

Features

* The Infiniti EX is the first production automobile to offer an Around View Monitor (AVM), which utilizes small front, side and rear-mounted cameras to give the driver a "top-down view" of the outside of the vehicle while parking - helping to reduce blind spots while parking.
* The EX is also one of the first production automobiles to feature "Scratch Shield," a special "self-healing" clearcoat paint. The paint self-repairs fine scratches, such as fingernail scratches under door handles, restoring the EX's surface close to the original state. The process, which takes anywhere from one day to one week (depending on the surrounding temperature and the depth of the scratch), is accomplished through the use of a special highly elastic resin. This resin is combined with a conventional clearcoat to increase the paint's flexibility and strength by raising the resin density.
* The EX becomes the second Infiniti production vehicle, following the 2008 Infiniti M-series, to offer the new Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system. This feature will utilize the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system to help assist the driver in maintaining lane position by applying gentle brake pressure on each wheel individually to generate intended movement. It should be noted that this system does not "pull" you back into your lane, but simply sounds an alert and nudges the vehicle in the correct direction when lane departure is detected.

This engine is similar to the VQ20DE, but has a 2.5 L (2495 cc) displacement. Bore and stroke are 85 mm and 73.3 mm, with a compression ratio of 9.8 to 10.3:1. It produces 190 PS (140 kW; 190 hp) to 210 PS (150 kW; 210 hp) @6400 rpm and 174 to 195 ft·lbf (236 to 264 N·m) of torque. The 3.5 L (3498 cc) VQ35DE is used in many modern Nissan vehicles. Bore and stroke are 95.5 mm and 81.4 mm. It uses a similar block design to the VQ30DE, but adds variable valve timing. It produces 231 PS (170 kW; 228 hp) to 302 PS (222 kW; 298 hp) of power and 246 to 268 ft·lbf (334 to 363 N·m) of torque.

The VQ35DE is built in Iwaki and Decherd, TN. It was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list from 2002 through to 2007. It features forged steel connecting rods, a microfinished one-piece cast crankshaft, and Nissan's nylon intake manifold technology. It has low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons and the intake is a high-flow tuned induction system.

A modified version of the VQ35DE, called the S1, is produced by Nismo (Nissan's motorsports and performance division) for the Fairlady Z S-Tune GT. It produces 300 PS (220 kW; 300 hp) at 7,200 rpm, a higher rev-limit than that of the original VQ35DE. The 350Z GT-S concept has a VQ35DE equipped with a switchable Novidem supercharger, producing around 382 PS (281 kW; 377 hp) with the supercharger switched on.

The Nissan Teana (Japanese: 日産・ティアナ) is a front wheel drive full-size automobile produced by Nissan of Japan, introduced in 2003. It is exported as the Nissan Maxima and Nissan Cefiro to certain markets, not to be confused with the Nissan Maxima sold in North America (with which it shares its platform). It shares a platform with the North American Maxima and Nissan Altima, as well as the Japanese market Presage. Size-wise, the Teana sits between the US Maxima and Altima.

The second generation Teana has been designed with Chinese needs held in high regard, resulting in a quiet, comfortable and relaxed ambience for both the driver and the passengers. The new Teana is powered by Nissan's 2.5 liter VQ25DE V6 and 3.5 liter Vq35DE V6 engines hooked up to a Xtronic CVT transmission with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC). The entry level model uses a 2.0 liter MR20DE engine.

he Nissan Teana comes with a brand new look especially in the front with a 3D like grille since the three horizontal bars seem to be cut from a sphere. In order to justify the luxury tag Nissan offers its new flagship with plenty of gadgets and safety features like an intelligent air-conditioning system, Bose surround sound audio system and HDD based Carwings navigation system.

The design stays very much along the lines of the concept model, albeit toned down for production. Gone are the rear hinged back doors (suicide doors) and the front windscreen which ran from the bottom of the A-Pillar right over the roof to the top of the C Pillar has been replaced with the more conventional front windscreen and sunroof.

Power will come courtesy of Nissan's V6 Engine(VQ25DE and VQ35DE versions) and XTRONIC CVT(continuously variable transmission) and especially for China - a two-liter four-cylinder engine(MR20DE) will also be made available.

Nissan revealed the new, redesigned Teana at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show.

The new Teana is based on the Nissan D platform also used by the new North American Nissan Maxima and Nissan Altima. Engine choices include a 3498cc V6, and a 2495cc liter V6 and 1997cc in-line four, all with a continuously variable transmission. The car's design was based on the Intima concept car shown in October 2007.

So far,the car has been launched in Japan, Russia, China, Brunei, Trinidad and Tobago, and Singapore. In China, Dongfeng also released 1/18 scale models to promote the car.

Badging

The first-generation Teana was sold under the name of Nissan Cefiro in Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei, Latin America & Caribbean, while it was old under the name of Teana in Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia & China. The car is known as the Maxima in Australia & New Zealand, and Altima in North America. The Cefiro name has been discontinued on the second-generation line. Currently, it is unknown if the new Teana will continue to be sold as the Nissan Maxima in the other markets outside of North America.

It was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list from 2002 through to 2007. It features forged steel connecting rods, a microfinished one-piece cast crankshaft, and Nissan's nylon intake manifold technology. It has low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons and the intake is a high-flow tuned induction system
